What is a Kakemono Scroll?
A Kakemono Scroll is a traditional Japanese art form that has been part of Japanese culture for more than 1,000 years.
In Japan, it is called a Kakejiku (掛軸). Overseas, it is also known as a Kakemono or Hanging Scroll. On our website, we simply refer to it as a Kakemono Scroll for our international customers.
A Kakemono Scroll combines the beauty of Shodo, the traditional art of Japanese calligraphy, with the craftsmanship of traditional Japanese mounting.
Shodo — A Living Japanese Tradition
To understand a Kakemono Scroll, we must first understand Shodo (書道), the art of Japanese calligraphy.
Shodo is the traditional Japanese art of expressing ideas through brush and ink. But to the Japanese, it is about far more than writing beautiful characters.
Each brushstroke requires complete focus. It is a practice of facing oneself, calming the mind, and growing as a person.
Even legendary Samurai such as Takeda Shingen (武田信玄), famous for the philosophy of Fūrinkazan (風林火山), practiced Shodo as part of their personal discipline. Holding a brush was considered just as important as wielding a sword in refining one's character.
Even today, the spirit of Shodo continues to live on in schools, homes, and dojos throughout Japan.

Most of our customers are people who sincerely love and respect Japanese culture. Martial artists. Dojo instructors. And people around the world who continue to study and appreciate Japan and its traditions.
This brings me great joy. Through Kakemono Scrolls, I have met people from many different countries, and many of my customers have also become my friends. We may live in different countries and speak different languages, but we share the same respect for Japanese culture.
That is why every Kakemono Scroll we create is individually handcrafted in Japan. From the calligraphy to the traditional mounting, each piece is made by skilled Japanese artisans using techniques that have been passed down through generations. It takes approximately three weeks to complete a single scroll, with care, patience, and respect for tradition.
That is why we do more than simply create Kakemono Scrolls. We want to serve as a bridge, sharing the history, culture, and spirit of Japan with people around the world.
